Ease of Use:  

This program is so easy a child could use it. Typing Instructor Platinum managed to create a program that appeals to both young children and adults. The fun images and games make the experience fun and exciting, while the material and directions are simplistic, increasing the effectiveness of the program.

There is also an option to change the existing settings on the program. You can choose between English or Spanish as a base language in addition to having constant access to your WPM goal.

Feature Set:  

Typing Instructor Platinum is chock full of typing lessons, followed by tests and wrapped up with fun practice activities and games. With this software, you’ll be hurled into a very precise step-by-step process through which you’ll learn the basics of typing, and eventually surpass you’re goal WPM mark in stellar form.

As soon as you install this program it tests you’re current WPM mark. From there you have the option of learning the correct hand posture of typing—this would be for all the newbies—or proceed into the first lesson. Each lesson covers an isolated group of letters at a time, usually three or four. The lessons, and the test that follow, get harder as the program takes you further into your typing education.

Very precise statistics and charts will show you how you’re doing as your venture through the program. These results will allow you to see where you’re excelling, and where you’re faltering. The charts can give you isolated results, showing you are performing with each letter, figure and hand. It may be that your left hand is accomplishing 70 WPM and your right is only plugging out 55 WPM. This information will allow you to go back and work on those exercises again.

On a structural level, we liked how we were able to change what the travel port looked like. There are three options available, a global based design, a futuristic design and a jungle themed design. Just one more fun aspect this program presents. There is also an arcade where you can play a variety of typing games.

Ease of Installation:  

This was an easy program to install. The process was quick and effortless. It was a mere five minutes from the moment we inserted the disc to the moment we typed in our first words.

Typing Instructor Platinum is one of the only products we reviewed that is compatible with Windows Vista. Additionally, Typing Instructor Platinum is also one of the only products we reviewed that is compatible with Mac OS X. Furthermore, Typing Instructor Platinum has been tested and is compatible with Windows 7.

Help/Support:  

Although we do not anticipate you’ll need help understanding how to use this program, there are outlets available if you do run into a problem. On each section of Typing Instructor there is a help tab. The help tab offers suggestions for the specific page you’re viewing. So, if you’re on the home page it offers suggestions on how to get started; whereas if you’re on the Results page it offers suggestions on how to read the results and calculate them to offer a more precise evaluation.

We could not be happier with the effectiveness of this program. Typing Instructor Platinum brings it all together with a vast array of features, easy to use setup, and an overall effectiveness that is almost unmatched. We especially liked the result tracking feature which breaks down every aspect of progression you’ve made. The ability to change the theme of the program, as well as go back over lessons you don’t feel quite up to snuff with, really give the feeling of being in control of your learning; overall and outstanding piece of typing software.
